If you spend some time on the beach in Brazil, you will undoubtedly encounter one of the country’s specialties, and we’re not talking about football…
Little mobile tents or cabins, the barracas (pronounce ba-ha-ka), are the best places to enjoy a Batida (ba-chee-da), Brazil’s most common cocktail, from which the Caipirinha is in fact only a derivative.
Batida refers in Portugese to any shaken drink, but in Brazil it’s different. Not only will it contain the famous cachaça and your choice of fresh fruits, from maracujá (passion fruit) and abacaxi (pineapple) to caju (cashew) and morango (strawberry), but a tendency for sweetness made the Brazilians add condensed milk too ! What a good idea.
This way of drinking appeared in the 1930’s and gained popularity since then, spreading all over the country from Rio de Janeiro and Sao Paulo.
Enough talk, let’s have a try! Its most popular flavour is Coco, and it will be as fresh as if coming from a barraca, without needing to add condensed milk, with our Le Fruit de MONIN:
Batida Coco
- 40 ml Le Fruit de MONIN Coco
- 40 ml cachaca
- 100 ml milk
- 15 ml fresh Lime juice (½ lime)
- 1 twist of lime
Blend all the ingredients in a blender with ice cubes (12 Oz)
Serve in a fancy glass
Garnish with lime wedge and Pineapple fan
You can twist your Batida a little more by replacing half of Le Fruit de MONIN Coco’s dose with another flavour.
