Bitter Cocktails are back

You can’t have missed it, bartenders and mixologists became a bit nostalgic over the past few months!

It seems that they have been falling in love again with these classic old recipes, using forgotten spirits such as vermouths, gentians, sherries, quinquinas, amaros, and of course bitters and aromatic bitters.

Yes, the revival of the prohibition style is responsible for a wave of vintage cocktails taken from the cocktail bible books of the 19th and early 20th centuries.

We have seen many speakeasy style bars (illegal bars during the prohibition period where you had to speak low to avoid police to find you, "speak-easy")popping up in lots of big cities, hidden at the back of restaurants behind a secret door, where you can taste classic old cocktails twisted with a 21st Century touch!

The iconic Negroni  (1 part gin, 1 part bitter, 1 part red vermouth) is making a strong resurgence. It can easily be revisited by just adding a barspoon of MONIN Tonka Bean syrup to give a new and original taste.

Mixologists are wild about complex flavoured spirits with herbs, spices, roots or vegetables. Not only because it enhances their creativity, but also because it allows them to propose low alcoholic and less sweet beverages to their customers such as Spritzs and others Aperitivos. They contains bitters but no hard spirits like gin or vodka, making them easier to drink.

Think about it… Americano, Negroni, Spritz, Pimm’s, Tampico, Manhattan, Sazerac… so many classic bitter cocktails that can be twisted with MONIN flavours ! Release your creativity and create twisted versions of those classics of the cocktail world!
