Origin
The Black Forest Gateau gets its name, not as you might expect from the wooded mountain range in the South West Germany, but from the specialty liqueur from that region known as Schwarzwälder Kirsch, which is distilled from tart cherries. This is the ingredient, with its distinctive cherry pit flavour and alcoholic content that gives the cake its flavour. Typically, Black Forest cake consists of several layers of chocolate cake, with whipped cream and cherries between each layer. Then the cake is decorated with additional whipped cream, maraschino cherries, and chocolate shavings. MONIN has recreated the exquisite taste of this gateau to enable you to create indulgent dessert drinks.
